What are some cautions to take when solving equations containing parentheses?

Here's one caution. Take notice of layers of parentheses: i.e. ((x+3)(x-7))^2 is different from ((x+3)(x-7)^2)

PEMDAS = evaluate Parenthesis first, followed by Exponents, followed by Multiplication or Division (which ever comes first from left to right), followed by Addition or Subtraction (which ever comes first from left to right).
