They can't have asked you to factor a polynomial without already teaching you how to multiply two terms like that.

Use the FOIL method (First, Outer, Inner, Last). You multiply each of those things together and add them up. Do that with (x-3)(x+5) and post what you get and I'll tell you if you're right.
