hi, when the buffer is in 'fundamental' instead of 'REPL:listen', how can I use M-o or M-z to evaluate expression? Thanks

If you encounter problems with the Edwin editor, I warmly recommend that you switch to a more friendly platform. Following the instruction of some of the dwellers of this study group, I downloaded DrRacket (google it to download), and I can evaluate there any Scheme expression with simply hitting the enter key. You can do all of the drills in this course using this interface without problem and very simply, be sure.
