Can you factor this: y=-0.2x^2 + 4.8x - 10.8 I need an explanation to why I cant use the factoring method for this equation. Please help me out.

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

-2x2 +48x -108=0 divide by -2 x2 -24x +54 =0

@jhonyy9 but they are in decimals

Yes, just distribute out -0.2 from the eqtn. in order to have just one x^2. This gives you -0.2(x^2 - 24x + 54) from this point you should see that you are unable to figure out two numbers that would add up to -24 and multiply to 54. Therefore, you can't use the factoring method.

Thank you very much :D
