yes, because every person needs a challenge of some sort in order to get over it, and excel, and become better. it makes the person stronger, mentally and physically. Plus, when misfortune falls over one, it is likely that it would not happen again, and their situation would become better. they also would become wiser in the ways of the world, and that could be used to help other's in times of trouble.

ummm.....sort of. i guess it could be discouraging, and make people want to perform lesser, and resign to their fate. It could create a false fear or image of something. It could affect the person's personal life, and make the person cause harm to themselves and others.
