Construct a simple ramp using a plyboard about 15 inches wide and about 30 inches long, raised at one end using a brick. Mark a starting line about 4 inches from the raised end. Take a small toy car and keep it towards the raised end so that its front tyres just touch the starting line. Release it. Measure how far it rolls on the ground after going down the ramp. Now increase the mass of the car by taping two coins to the car. Again keep it with front tyres touching the starting line and release it. Measure how far it rolls on the ground after going down the ramp. You will find that it is longer than before. If you want, you can tape two more coins and repeat the experiment. This experiment shows that as the mass of the car increases, the force pushing the car along the floor increases, making heavier cars travel farther.
