Mathematics 14 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply (x+13)(x-13)

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

x^2 - 169

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

This is a difference of squares \[\Large (x+13)(x-13) = x^2-169\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These two are conjugates of each other (meaning same numbers in the parenthesis but different signs) so the middle terms cancel out.. so all you have to do is square the first term and square the second term and when you do that you get..\[x^2 - 169\]
