If a is negative, then |a| = -a ..... How does it become negative a if a absolute means that it's positive? I'm confused.

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

that's wrong |a| = a even if a is -ve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets say a=-9 Than the absolute value is 9 So |-9|=9 which is -(-9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right andras

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

yes absolute value a = {(i) a, if a is more than 0 (ii) -a , if a is less than 0 (iii) 0 , if a =0

OpenStudy (vishweshshrimali5):

these are 3 possible values.
