Advantages & disadvantages of alloys?

That is a pretty vague question. There are a lot of different types of alloys with all sorts of different properties, and no broad advantages or disadvantages that apply to all of them. Common advantages would be to increase strength and hardness, and increase ductility. I guess the drawback would be if you have some application where it is important to have a high purity metal.

Sorry about that- should have made it clearer.
I meant metal alloys. (So metals that have other metals added to them to make them more useful) :-)
