Factor using U substitution 24x − 58x1/2 − 42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am going to bet that this means \[24x-25x^{\frac{1}{2}}-42\] so put \[u=x^{\frac{1}{2}}\] and factor \[u^2-58u-42\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well there are two typos above, it should be factor \[24u^2-58u-42\] and you get \[2(u-3)(12u +7)\] and now replace u by \[x^{\frac{1}{2}}\] to get your answer
