can anybody please help?!! Using data from 1996-1998, the annual number of cars sold at a certain dealership can be modeled by the formula y=3x+5 where y is the number of cars, in thousands, sold x years after 1996. According to this formula, in which years will the number of cars sold exceed 38 thousand?

Because 1996 is the initial year, we can say that x = 0 for 1996. There for 1 is 1997, 2 is 1998, and so on. To solve the problem, however, we take the given equation, y = 3x + 5, and substitue in the target value 38 and then solve the algebraic problem. So, 38 = 3x + 5 33 = 3x 11 = x So, 11 years after 1996 (1996 + 11 = 2007), we should hit the expected sale of 38 thousand cars.
