solve 4x^2-5x-6=0... help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find two number that multiply to be 4x^2and multiply to be -6 (x-2)(4x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like for example why is the x on the first pair and the 4x on the second pair, and why put the -2 with the first x and why put the +3 with the 4x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was my explanation, just find factors that multiply to be the trinomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what is the rule with knowing where to put the numbers, like which with which.. u get me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have look at what you are given and understand that the first term need to x^2 or whatever it may be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe some one will come along and explain it better to you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, ok, how do you call these type of problems? so i can look it up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
