A concession stand charges $1.50 per soda and $2.00 per pretzel. Write an expression for the amount of money you would need to buy x sodas and y pretzels.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.50x + 2.00y = Amount of money you need This seems more complicated than it is. Its just a mathematical way of writing out that if you were buying 3 sodas and two pretzels you'd need to multiply 1.50 (cost of soda) by 3 and then 2.00 (pretzel) by 2.00 to get the total. To use the expression you just put the number of sodas in where x is and the number of pretzels in where y is.
