Whats the difference between Linear and non linear equation plz ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

nonlinear equation tend to bend

OpenStudy (turingtest):

linear equations have variable raised only to the first power, non-linear equations have variables raised to higher powers. i.e. 3x+7y-5z=6 is linear 5x^2+7y^3-z^2=2 is not

thanks , but same with sin and cos is not linear or x^1/2 right ?

OpenStudy (zarkon):

a liner equation is an equation of the form \[a_1x_1+\cdots +a_nx_n=b\] a's are constants and x's are the variables
