What is the inquisition?

During the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella in Spain (which actually wasn't Spain at the time but two separate nations united by the marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella) a religious crusade of sorts was led against all other religions except for Catholic. The monarchs believed that the Jews and the Moors (Muslims) were weakening Spain so they gave them the option to leave or convert to Catholicism. Some did stay and convert but others were suspicious that the converts weren't really all that faithful to Catholicism so the Inquisition was the court in Spain that all the potential heretics went before to be judged.
