Identify the degree of the polynomial 8x3y2 – 10xy + 4x2y2 + 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you hv more than on variable, then for each term you calculate the index/power by adding the powers/indices of all variables and then the highest combines total is the degree In the first term x has power 3 and y has power 2, combined total = 3+2 =5 in the second term x has power 1 and y has power 1, combined total = 2 in third term x has power 2 and y has power 2, combined total 4 so degree of this polynomial is 5
