"One alloy contains 80 percent gold and another alloy contains 55 percent gold. How many grams of each alloy should be combined to make 40g of an alloy that contains 70 percent gold?"

Let x be grams of one alloy and y be grams of the other. x + y = 40 0.8x + 0.55y = 0.70 If you solve the system of equations you should get the answer.
