What major contibutions to learning were made by sumerians?

The Sumerians (Mesopotamia, 6000 to 2000 BC) were among the first civilzations to practice year-round agriculture, rather than migration to farm and graze animals. They also developed the written symbols (hieroglyphs) that later became the cuneiform script. Sumerian architecture also developed the arch and the dome.
