You are trying to get p by itself. To do this you need to get rid of the w. And since p is being multiplied by w, the way you would go about doing this is by doing the opposite, which is dividing by w. wp / w = p And since whatever you do on one side of the equation you have to do to the other, you have to divide e by w as well so the final answer would be e/w = p or p = e/w
