Tyrosine kinase receptors are a large and diverse group of receptors in cell biology, ie. the mediators of external signals into internal signals. In short the basic structure of a tyrosine kinase receptor consists of two parts that (when introduced to their target substance) will bond and cross-link by phosphorylating each other (adding phosphate groups to the protein structures). Thereafter the newly formed tyrosine kinase receptor will attract molecules on the inside of the cell membrane that starts the chain reactions inside the cell that the target substance was intended to activate.
