What is an equation for the inverse of the relation y=4x+2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this says 1) multiply by 4 2) add 2 inverse will say 1) subtract 2 2) divide by 4 so it will be \[y^{-1}=\frac{x-2}{4}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just like if you were asked to solve \[4x+2=14\] you would subtract 2 and divide by 4 to get \[x=3\]

Where did you get the the y^-1 after you did the inverse?
