I have a painting and the original dimension is 49 x 61 cm. I have to replicate it in the correct larger dimension. However the canvas I have to replicate it on is 122 x 178 cm. By my calculations the painting will fit into it 2.91 times on the long side and 2.48 times on the short side. So I have to cut out some of the width of the original 49 cm painting. My calculation is this means cutting out 1.25 cm of the original 49 cm width. This means I can "trim " the original 49 cm wide composition by that amount or is it 12.5% of 49 cms which is 6.12 cms? What is it?
