Hmm, well we do have subconcious thoughts when we are asleep. But I guess one way to know if you are awake or not is that you have active conscious thought and can feel physical stimuli. Anything you feel in your head is just thought induced feelings. You could always poke yourself with a pin to see if you are awake lol
