Two ships are initially 2 miles apart on an east-west line. Then, one travels north at 20mph and the other south at 30mph. At what rate is the distance between them changing in two hours? I'm fairly sure I should be using the Pythagorean theorem for this but beyond that i'm lost....anybody have an answer and hopefully a detailed explanation of how they got it??
