Converse: If four points are non-collinear, then they are non-coplanar. In order to define multiple planes, you need to have at least 3 non-colinear points. Four points can be non-colinear and still be coplanar if the volume created is 0. For example, imagine a triangular pyramid. It is defined by its four verticies. If you take the top of the pyramid and squash it down so its flat, you just have a triangle with an extra dot in the center.
