 The first option would make more sense. Because the the early cell theory could not have been incorrect, and we focus on all kinds of organisms in today's research, and obviously we have not learned everything we need to know about cells otherwise we would be able to come up with immunities for more infections. But this is just my theory :) I'm only in high school :P
