OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would happen if s-phase did not occur before mitosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the role of mitosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The cell would not have 2 copies of the DNA to separate in mitosis. When the cell tried, it would tear the chromosome apart. This happens in some cancer cells.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

S Phase: To produce two similar daughter cells, the complete DNA instructions in the cell must be duplicated. DNA replication occurs during this S (synthesis) phase.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

S phase is the duplication of the cells genetic information, if this did not occur, when the cell divides into two cells, there would be no copy of this genetic information given to 1 out of the 2 cells. ===bioboumani===
