How many enzymes are characterized?

OpenStudy (frostbite):

In 2008 about 2000 enzymes was characterized, and for many of them we know the chemical composition, becuase we know the primary structure (the amino acid sequence)

Thanks.

OpenStudy (aroub):

wait.. take a look at this http://www.biologyreference.com/Dn-Ep/Enzymes.html and look at the fifth paragraph.. "All enzymes are characterized by having a high degree of specificity for their substrates, and they accelerate the rate of chemical reactions tremendously, often by a factor of a million times or more."

OpenStudy (frostbite):

Aroub you give a definition of enzymes. :)

OpenStudy (aroub):

oh so not all enzymes are characterized?

OpenStudy (frostbite):

No if we talk about the primary structure.

OpenStudy (aroub):

oh okay... ty :)
