multiply the first equation by 7 and the second equation by 2 to get: -14x-35y=119 and 14x-6y=4 Then add the two equations together to get 0-41y=123 solve for y y=123/(-41)= -3 plug y=-3 back into one of teh original equations -2x-5(-3)=17 solve for x x=-1 so the answer is (-1,-3)
