26 = 6(5-a) We need to 'distribute' 6 into 5 - a 26 = 6*5 - 6*a 26 = 30 - 6a Now subtract 30 from both sides 26 - 30 = 30 - 30 - 6a -4 = -6a Divide through by -6 -4/-6 = -6a/-6 2/3 = a Hope this helps.
