x=-b/2a is the equation for the axis of symmetry as well as the value of the vertex, which is either the value of the max or min of the equation. If the leading coefficient in the quadratic is negative it goes down and thus the vertex is a max and if the leading coefficient in the quadratic is positive it goes up and thus the vertex is a max. -b/2a=-4/-4 so it's 1. Plugging in 1 results in -2+4+3. Thus the max is (1,5)
