what is the physical meaning of the derivative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The derivative can be interpreted in a few different ways. One way to think about the derivative is as providing the slope of a function at a particular point (x-value). It can also be interpreted as the rate of change of the function at a point. It can also be interpreted as the slope of the tangent line to the curve at a point. And lastly as the limit of the slopes of the secant lines as Delta x approaches 0
