Solve for x (I'll post the equation below)

OpenStudy (diyadiya):

where?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

[e^2x] - [4e^x] -5=0

that makes noooo sense O.o

logarithm

A quadratic in disguise! Let y = exp(x). Then, the equation becomes \[y ^{2}-4y-5=0\] Solves to (y-5)(y+1)=0, with solutions y=5, y=-1 So, exp(x)=5, -1, so inverse gives x=ln5 only, as ln(-1) undefined Hope this helped.

That's what I thought but couldn't remember how to do it thanks!
