How to solve a system of equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ x^2 - y^2 + \sqrt{x^2 + y^2} = 0 \] \[2xy = 0 \]

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

If 2xy = 0 that means x = 0 , y = 0 or both x and y = 0.

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

So take the first equation and break it into three cases: case 1: x = 0 case 2: y = 0 case 3: x = 0 and y = 0
