I want to use linux for its gcc compiler but cannt find a good varient which could use my processor to is max potential... please recommend me some.... and dot say ubuntu etc... i have problem in them with the vi editor...
Which is exactly the problem for ubuntu? (about the vi editor)??
don't use the vi editor, use eclipse, it integrates well with gcc, then you can use any distribution. However, at our offices, we use fedora project rather than ubuntu for gcc development, but it is a personal preference.
@osanseviero when i press the up arrow to go up in the code... it types capital A and left arrow types capital B... etc... i cannot access code....
:s What about gentoo linux and fedora?
@jjustinb i one even tried a fedora... it didnt have gcc ... can u tell me the exact version??
@jjustinb which version of fedora??
fedora dvd contains all major portions. fedora live contains the most used only. make sure you select development tools or custom setup.
@osanseviero which version??
we have used fedora since V6 for gcc development because of compatibility with RedHat professional.
@jjustinb is it free???
if yes then link please...
fedora is free, redhat is paid, they are source code compatible. download the fedora dvd 32bit or 64bit, choose development environment as primary, or custom and select all the environments you want.
@jjustinb thanks man....
