24/5z+4 = 4/z-1
24/(5z+4) = 4/(z-1) Multiply but both sides by (z-1)(5z+4) 24(z-1) = 4(5z+4) 24z-24 = 20z +16 4z = 40 z = 10
That is, if you wanted to solve for z
I just become confused on that 2nd part where you simplify and have to subtract and add. (24z-24) = 20z+16 So when I combine terms(z) I would do it left to right? And yes I was solving for z. Thanks.
It doesn't matter if you add the terms from left to right or vice versa. As you can see, moved all the terms with z to the left side, and all the constants to the right. I could've done it the other way around, but I did it in a way that z remained positive.
Ahhhh. Thanks. But when I combine terms, don't I add them together? Or which every way it is on the equation?
You can only add similar terms When I had 24z-24 = 20z+16 I subtracted 20z from both sides 24z-20z-24=20z-20z+16 Which gives 4z-24=16 Then, I added 24 to both sides 4z-24+24=26+24 4z=40 Then, divided by 4 on both sides 4z/4=40/4 z=10
Oh I understand now. Thank you very much!
