What language do deaf people think in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lollllls!!!!!!!!!!!!! no, wait.... lmfaooooo!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the same language in which they communicate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but growing up before they learn sign language?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well they probably see words and stuff so whatever leanguage they are surrounded by...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if they are deaf and blind

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then probably braille

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol you can't think braille if you can't see or hear it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

blind people feel braille

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but can they picture it in their heads if they can't see it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you have never seen anything and you feel it, dont you have an image in your mind of what you think it looks like???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would you base it off of, you don't know what anything looks like except black space or not even that, just nothing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no... blind people imagine things tooo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

....like? how can they, the don't know what things are? are you saying the can picture things they have never seen like dreams? its like saying you can know what a fruit is without ever seeing it, tasting it, or feeling it, and being able to draw it inch for inch without any outside help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you never said they were unable to feel or taste... you just said blind and deaf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok bad comparison. my point is this. if you have never seen anything, never have heard of anything, then how can you think of what sight is when you have never seen anything. how can you imagine anything but just ideas (not pictures or things) b/c you have never seen them, let alone anything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you are still imagining things on your own..... nobody can tell you you are right or wrong and you just go through live thinking thats what that certain something is....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but you say "that" and the thing "that" is something, something that has a shape and size and color and other attributes. The only thing you can think about "that" is just the idea of it, not what "that" looks like, or what it is written or spoken?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you have an idea based upon feeling it. possibly tasting it and smelling it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the bottom line is this, if you can't hear or see, your basically a pile of rocks.
