What is the best way to learn code if you are just starting out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think a good way is reading other people code, basicaly pick an open source project you use and like, get the code and start reading. Let's say for example you have a blog and use Wordpress, you could just search and download their code and try to understand how it works.

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

Dont go directly to a programming code. Try HTML first...then maybe you could go to javascript (a scripting language) or python (a programming language). Be patient and go slow

If you're new, I'd recommend Stanford's CS106A "Programming Methodology" http://see.stanford.edu/see/courses.aspx

Learn to solve puzzles which require logic and start learning C because it mother of all the languages. If you know C,C++ you can work on other languages in the best way.
