I REALLY NEED HELP, I DONT GET IT A number decreased by negative three is equal to -40. Write an equation and find the number. I REALLY NEED HELP, I DONT GET IT A number decreased by negative three is equal to -40. Write an equation and find the number. @Mathematics
x- (-3)=-40 =>x=-43
n--3=-40 n+3=-40 n=-43
Since we don't know the number, you should make up a variable name or letter for it. As hoblos used "x", that sounds mighty fine. Now, the number is x. The problem says when x is decreased by -3 is equals -40. So, the equation hoblos wrote is the way to write and then solve for x by bringing all constants to one side as hoblos did.
what kind of idiot math teacher says "decreased by negative 3"?
:-) It is a lazy way to say "subtract -3 from a number".
