A treasure chest has a volume of x3 + 9x2 + 26x + 24 cm3 and the height is x + 4 cm. Find the polynomial that would represent the area of the bottom of the treasure chest? Explain your reasoning.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops, x^3+9x^2+26x.24 cm....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

+24 **** for the end. sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jkjk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol sorry :]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its [x3 + 9x2 + 26x + 24] / [ x + 4] because when you divide something by the height you make it 2D hence making it just length and width. The quotient of that represents the area (that is L X W).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh, that makes so much sense. thank you

OpenStudy (radar):

You should get \[x ^{2}+5x+6\] when you divide. (x+4)(x+3)(x+2) are the factors of the volume.
