The blending - or syncretism - of the different cultures blended the indigenous beliefs of the Maya with the Catholic beliefs of the Spanish. What evolved from that was a highly specific cultural manifestation of Catholic belief that included many elements of the mayan cultures. The Day of the Dead is a very good example of this blend, wherein death itself is venerated in something far more reminiscent of Mayan death/ancestor worship than Catholicism.
Hey shouldn't it be Aztecs rather than Mayans?
I believe Aztecs were found in present day Mexico, Mayans in present day Central America (like Guatemala and Honduras), and the Incans in present day Peru.
