A cold tap fills a bath in 5 minutes, a hot tap fills the same bath in 15 mins, and a waste tap empties the bath in 10 minutes. If all 3 taps are open at the same time for 2 minutes, after which the waste tap is closed, how much longer will it take the 2 taps to fill the bath? 2.5 mins

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

how?

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

I know the answer is 2.5 but i want to know if there are other methods other than what I used...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in first two mins 1/3 of the tub will be filled so, remaining 2/3 and in one min 4/15 of the tub will be filled by the two pipes together so in 5/2 mins the remaining portion that is 2/3 of the tub will be filled by these two pipes together

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

I guess there's only one method to this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

I used the same idea u used (explained) to solve it and had 2.5 mins too. I just wanted to know if there were other methods but I'm guessing not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i feel every other person uses the same method for solving this kind of problem !

may be ishaan tell us sumthing different ??
