Its been loong since I used Microsoft..but last time I used it I used diya's way of using Header and footer

what you mean? have you tried "insert -> page number -> page end(or something like that)". It has to be continuous as it adds the numbers to each page.

I think you can go to the INSERT menu and select PAGE NUMBERS option... Now select format PAGE NUMBERS .... and now check the CONTINUOUS PAGE NUMBERS option... that's it....
