Two friends are painting a living room. Ken can paint it in 6 hours working alone. If Barbie works alone, it will take her 8 hours. How long will it take working together? Round to the nearest tenth of an hour.

x/6 + x/8 = 1.

That is

x hours / 6 would mean that in 6 hours he would be done, similarly for 8. This is a good problem to really understand well, because there are lots of variations on this and understanding this early would be very helpful
