The heart beat rate in humans is about 72 times per minute. Is this including the systole and diastole or only the diastole?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pretty sure its both.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya or it would be less than 60 times a minute.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The heart rate is counted as how many times the heart beats per unit of time. So when you count it, the heart contracts, then expands, is one beat; then it contracts and expands as the second beat; and so on... I don't think systole or diastole matters here, as they are only different stages of the contraction.
