TWO PART QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alex sells T-shirts. It costs Alex $6.50 to buy each T-shirt.Alex also pays $150.00 each month to rent equipment to add print to the T-shirts. Alex sells each T-shirt for $12.00. Write and inequality that can be used to determine the number of T-shirts. Alex must sell each month in order to make a profit for the month. ( Assume that Alex sells each T-shirt he buys.) What is the minimum number of T-shirts Alex must sell in order to make a profit in a given month? ( Assume that Alex sells each T-shirt he buys.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

suppose alex buys T number of t shirts. what would his income if he sold T t shirts at 12 dollars per shirt?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope. i'm not giving you the answer. I will ask you questions and you will solve the problem on your own

OpenStudy (king):

12T?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that is correct. and how much does he spend on T t shirts every month to buy the t shirts at 6.50 and and additional 150 bucks on maintanance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$149.50

OpenStudy (king):

156.5T?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. hoe did you come up with that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how*

OpenStudy (king):

Sry 6.5T+150

OpenStudy (anonymous):

who is that you are asking couse their are two people answering this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, king that is correct. very good!

OpenStudy (king):

Now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am asking all the people eho want to solve the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright. now, he spends 150+6.5T and earns 12T. so what is the criteria to make a profit? just answer in plain english

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$149.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the right answer right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, princess, read the whole thread

OpenStudy (king):

T=300/11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

king, that answer doesnt answer what I asked. you need to work with me

OpenStudy (king):

Sry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, what is the basic criteria to make a profit? supose you had an ipod. you bought it for 150 dollars. what is the minimum price you need to sell it at to make a profit?

OpenStudy (king):

151

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly! or more accurately, any amount greater than 150 and you will make a profit, even it is 150.01. agreed?

OpenStudy (king):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright. so what that means is, selling price should be greater than buying price in order to make a profit. in mathematical lingo, selling price> buying price. so can you apply the same logic in the problem we are discussing?

OpenStudy (king):

150+6.5T <12T ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

very good! now solve for T!

OpenStudy (king):

How?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't have understand how you are getting answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to solve inequalities?

OpenStudy (king):

Not properly wait i'll try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

princess, did you read the whole thread? where do you think you are getting lost?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and princess, can you solve the inequality and show the steps for king?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer that are you are getting when i get a different answer

OpenStudy (king):

T=28?

OpenStudy (king):

That is possible as if you substitute you get 332<336

OpenStudy (anonymous):

king, remember that this is an inequality. so your answer should be T > 27

OpenStudy (king):

Then 5.5T>150?

OpenStudy (king):

T>300/11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the fisrt part of the question merely asls for the inequality. so the answer for the first part is 12 T > 6.5 T + 150. the second part of the question asks what is the minimum number of T shirts that akex has to sell to make a profit. since alex cannot sell 27.27 shirts, the next whole number is 28 and therefore T = 28 is the correct answer

OpenStudy (king):

27.27 should be rounded of to 27 not 28

OpenStudy (king):

Your answer is T>27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YOU HAVE NOT TOLD ME HOW YOU GOT THE ANSWER.

OpenStudy (king):

That is he should sell atleast 28 t-shirts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright princess, lets concentrate on you. suppose you bought 10 T shirts each for 6.5 dollars. how much do you sped on the T shirts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes king that is right

OpenStudy (king):

K thnx Dhatraditya gtg bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey princess, are you ready to solve the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome! so answer this qujestion for me. suppose you bought 10 T shirts each for 6.5 dollars. how much do you sped on the T shirts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$65.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright good. Now, suppose you sell the T shirts each at 12 dollars, how much money will you make?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$120.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay good. now suppose you are pay 150 bucks monthly to keep your clothes shop going. how much would you end up spending every month on rent and the cost to buy 10 T shirts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$335.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh? how did you get that/. can you explain? I am asking for the money you SPEND out of your pocket every month

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$66.25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. that is wrong. You spend 150 per month on rent right? you spend 65 on buying the shirts right? so you spend 65 + 150 buckw every month on the store as a whole. with me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

65.00 + 150 = $215.00 now what do i do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright. so you spent 215 dollars on your store. but how much money did you make selling those t shirts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do $215.00 _ 65.00 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no no. remember you bought the t shirts for 6.5 each but you sold them for 12 dollars each. so how much money do you make when you sell 10 t shirts each at 12 dollars?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

215.00 + 12.00 =$227.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dhatraditya are you their
