The bisector of a line segment is the perpendicular bisector when using a compass and straightedge. The same set of geometric tools is required for both constructions to ensure precision and accuracy. The perpendicular to a line segment is always bisected by the line segment on which it is constructed. Arcs and line segments have to be drawn for both constructions when using geometric measurement tools.
