Use the shortcut rules to mentally calculate the derivative of the given function. f(x) = −x + 4/x + 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[-x + \frac{4}{x} + 1\] rewrite the middle term using exponents \[-x + 4x^{-1} + 1\] Then calculate. Derivative of -x is 1.. derivative of 4x^-1 is -4x^-2.. derivative of 1 is 0 therefore the answer is..\[-1 - 4x^{-2}\] or \[-1 - \frac{4}{x^2}\]

Should say derivative of -x is -1
