A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away, there existed a lonely planet containing two ruined structures belonging to an alien civilization. The only creature on the planet is an alien vacuum cleaning robot, whose sole purpose of existence is to ensure that the two alien buildings are free of dust. The poor lonely robot has been hit by a meteor; it is blind and its wheels malfunction: it is not guaranteed to move between the two rooms properly. Its Operating System has crashed, deleting its memory of the state of the two buildings. The robot has rebooted.
The robot has rebooted, remembering only the fact that two building still exist and that it is in one of them
can i have the madal please?
assume the robot still remembers how to move. will the two rooms every be perfectly clean?
will the robot succeed in cleaning both rooms, considering that there is no wind on the planet?
oh and I forgot to say its cleaning mechanism is still working perfectly, even though it has lost its ability to sense the world. It can never leave the two rooms; it will simply bump walls
I think that, given an infinite amount of time, the rooms will eventually be cleaned.
Granted all that, why would the robot move, if he only remembers that the buildings exist and that he is in one of them? He wouldn't move without a purpose, and his sole purpose was to clean the rooms. As he lost that bit of information, he might be able to move, but would not move at all.
:( poor robot
