simplify the expression 5x + 2y - 2x + 8 simplify the expression 5x + 2y - 2x + 8 @Mathematics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

combine the x's so you have 3x+2y+8

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

3x+2y+8

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

think of each variable as a different kind of fruit. so lets say "x" is apples and "y" is orange. then all you need to do is group each type of fruit.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

so the apples you have are 5 and -2, giving you 3 apples altogether oranges are just 2 so you end up with 3x+2y+8
